YOUTH SERVICES REPORT

December 2016

Family movie night for November was the classic “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” with a bonus feature “The Mayflower Voyage.” Twelve children and their parents attended.  Refreshments were served.  Next month I will be showing “The Santa Clause” starring Tim Allen. We will have loads of fun with that holiday time.

Story time themes and coordinating crafts for November were mostly Thanksgiving themes: Native American Indians, pilgrims, and turkeys.  Other themes included in the November curriculum were Veteran’s Day and a new book from the Numeroff collection “If You Give a Mouse a Brownie.”  Coordinating crafts were Indian boy and girl portraits, pilgrim puppets, turkey place settings, American flags and poppy pictures, and mice faces.  The children were surprised with a brownie just like the story.  They always enjoy food surprises!

I’ll try to get all of the November craft pictures on F/B.  Because we are starting our December holiday theme and crafts.

I revised all the JFic paperback books in the turn styles.  Now all are updated and orderly.  Eventually need to weed out the old and prepare for some new paperbacks.

The SWAYS meeting in November was held at the Freeburg Area Library District.  New business was discussion of the summer reading program for 2017.  The theme is “Reading by Design”.  Possible performers and craft ideas were being shared.  Next month the SWAYS meeting will be in Fairview Heights.
