YOUTH SERVICES REPORT

December 2017

Story time themes for November were turkeys, giving thanks, Native American Indians, teepees, and miscellaneous autumn activates, coordinating crafts were turkey magnets, being thankful foam craft signs, 3D tabletop teepees, and an autumn activities paper booklet. We had a lively discussion on what we are thankful for. The children were thoughtful, spontaneous, and insightful with their responses. Their parents should be proud of them.

Family movie night for November was “Alvin’s Thanksgiving Celebration.” Alvin and the chipmunks provided a delightful musical program in which the children and parents all enjoyed. Lots of dancing during the special musical scenes. There were 20 children and parents attending.  What a great crowd!

I am finalizing my Christmas decorating ideas, crafts, and story time activities for December. Pay Minogue, Asst. Director has asked me to help coordinate the crafts for the Polar Express Party at the recreational center on Dec. 16th. I enjoy working with him and meeting new children who attend their programs.

The SWAYS meeting for November was at the Mississippi Valley Public Library in Collinsville. Some of the topics discussed were policies about confidentiality and children, library cards for minors, handling of unattended after-school children, and the upcoming Performer’s Showcase. The showcase will be held at the Fairview Heights Public Library on Sat., Jan. 20, 2018. Next SWAYS meeting will be at in the Cahokia Public Library in Cahokia.
