YOUTH SERVICES REPORT

December 2019

November story time themes were owls, pilgrims, Thanksgiving, and turkeys.  Our specific crafts were colorful, owl Thanksgiving foam magnets, pilgrim picture magnet craft, and turkey coaster crafts.  There has been a lot of activities during the month of November.      In addition to Thanksgiving themes, we added some Christmas activities too.

Per the request of Charlotte, the children and I made and decorated Christmas ornaments for a Christmas display at the East Alton History Museum.  The decorated ornaments were used to trim a special Christmas tree that would be in their school room display at the museum.  The children loved to decorate them as well as decorate special snowflakes.  It was a special time for all of us. I shared pictures with Judy of the kids and families who helped in this community event.

Family movie night we watched the new “Toy Story 4” movie.  This was a fun event, and parents and children alike enjoyed the continuing saga of Toy Story. We had a little Thanksgiving party.  As a surprise to the kids I made them pilgrim and turkey bookmarks.  I included them in the correspondence file for you to see.

SWAYS meeting was at Mississippi Valley Library in Collinsville.  Round table discussion on homeschool programming.  There was a lot of talk about our struggles to connect with homeschoolers and co-ops.  There are several libraries that have successful running programs.  There were ideas to share about STEM kits for kids that homeschool families could use.

I attended our annual performer’s showcase at the Fairview Heights Library.  This was a smaller showcase, and the majority of the libraries voted to have the showcase in November instead of January.  There were some new performers.  I booked three performers for the summer reading program for 2020.  Submitted by Maury Reynolds
